Congratulations to Jay Ralston, partner at Murray Ralston Lawyers, and his many colleagues. Today Jay and this group received the John A. McLeish Award from the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
This honour is awarded to the person, association or group that has made an outstanding contribution to the goals of a fair trial and access to justice. Jay and this group's contribution was acknowledged for taking on the HST/SABS class action litigation. The nomination states that "this is an issue of immense importance to accident victims and to the profession... The team is taking on a difficult case that individual claimants could not afford to litigate on their own." This class action is providing access to justice to thousands and thousands of victims who would have been shortchanged for medical and rehabilitation benefits.
Congratulations Jay! Well deserved!
Auto Insurance Consultation
The Ontario government has launched the “Putting Drivers First” consultation and is seeking input from drivers plus injured accident victims and their families with a view to reforming Ontario's broken auto insurance system. The deadline for feedback was February 15, 2019. Click here to learn more about the issues and to have your say.
Along with three other firms, Murray Ralston Lawyers has initiated class actions against 15 Ontario motor vehicle insurance companies. These companies have included HST in the calculation of accident benefits, contrary to legislation. This results in significant loss of funds for treatment of those injured in motor vehicle collisions. Jay Ralston, partner at Murray Ralston Lawyers, has been instrumental in moving these class actions forward.
For more information, here is a video of the press conference from December 2018.
